This is a very nice small Nantucket Lightship Basket Mold. It was purchased on Nantucket Island one winter 18ish years ago when I went to spend a week making a basket at a friend's home. This mold was purchased from an elderly gentleman who had been making baskets and supplies for many years. He marked the bottom of the mold for me as a guide, as you can see in the picture. However I never made another basket and this remains unused. It makes about a 3-1/2" basket, about 4-1/2" tall. The total height of the mold is 5". There is a threaded screw for mounting the 2-1/2" base, of which there are six. These are either red oak or mahogany (reddish in color). There is a 1" hole for using a weaving stand. There are also an additional 3 birch and 2 reddish wooden 2" bases and four 12mm ivory knobs with screws for attaching a handle to the basket. Thank you for viewing this auction.
